These are not normal times. At PubNub, we feel it’s important to explicitly take the step of condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This is not a blog post we ever expected to write. In normal times, our passion and focus is dedicated solely towards our product and our customers. But these are not normal times. At PubNub, we feel it’s important to explicitly take the step of condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Why does our condemnation matter? PubNub is small compared to the world’s largest companies, yet, as has often been said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing”.

PubNub has customers and team members around the world and throughout Eastern Europe, but our team is only a fragment of a larger community of technology organizations, both commercial and open source, that share a strong belief that democracy matters. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is a threat not only to Ukraine but to worldwide democracy. It is a threat to a world where people can disagree, yet still work together to provide opportunity and improve peoples' lives.

At PubNub, we believe that the rule of law matters, and that people can lead their best lives when on a level playing field without the risk of their livelihoods, and their very lives, being taken away.

The war in Ukraine is an assault on these ideals, and a true humanitarian crisis. Over 600,000 people have fled into neighboring countries since the war began, and many expect the numbers will grow much higher. As the death count of civilians and soldiers grows daily, many of us are wondering how we can help those that are suffering from this crisis.

To support the people of Ukraine, we are matching donations for our team members who contribute to charities. There are many charities doing admirable work to address this crisis and we encourage those who can to please contribute as well.

Large or small, we can all take part in taking action, helping out, and condemning this assault on democracy. Whether you live near or far from Ukraine, this invasion matters to us all. And this is why we condemn the invasion, encourage others to not look away, and not let this go unspoken.
