Watches are not only getting smarter, faster, and more connected. Android powered smartwatches are leading the charge, and as a result, we’re seeing major adoption of the Android smartwatch. More adoption means more apps, and more apps means more powerful Android smartwatch.
In the video below from the Silicon Valley Android Developers Meetup, wearable device developer David Lee discusses the smartwatch apps trend, what we can learn from it, and gives a forecast of what we’re building, specifically looking at Android smartwatch applications.
Some of the topics in his talk include:
- Smart watches as remote controls
- Smart watches for notifications (eg. call alerts, text alerts, etc.)
- Customization and personalization of Android smartwatch
Lee also explains his new Android smart watch application StepBOT, which gamifies the step counts a user receives through various health tracking devices like Fitbit, Jawbone, and Android Wear. Check out the StepBOT kickstarter here.
