# Create an IFTTT action

Create an IFTTT action when you want [Events & Actions](https://www.pubnub.com/docs/integrations/event-forwarding/overview.md) to trigger an [IFTTT](https://ifttt.com/) applet whenever a matching PubNub event occurs. You configure the action in the [Admin Portal](https://admin.pubnub.com/), but IFTTT requires an account and an applet with a Webhooks trigger before you can connect it.

Setting this up takes three parts: prepare an IFTTT applet that listens for a webhook, find that webhook's key, then create and pair the action in the Admin Portal.

If you already have an IFTTT applet with a Webhooks trigger and its key, skip to [Configure the IFTTT action](#configure-the-ifttt-action).

## Create an IFTTT account

Go to [ifttt.com](https://ifttt.com/), click **Sign up**, and follow the prompts.

## Prepare an applet with a webhook trigger

1. Sign in to IFTTT and click **Create** in the top right.
2. In **If This**, click **Add**, search for **Webhooks**, and select it.
3. Choose **Receive a web request**.
4. Enter an **Event Name**. Use this same name later in the Admin Portal's **Event Name** field.
5. Click **Create trigger**.
6. In **Then That**, click **Add** and choose the action service you want the applet to trigger, for example Slack.
7. Configure that service's action parameters.
8. Click **Create action**, review the applet, and click **Finish**.

## Find your webhook key

1. Go to the [Webhooks service page](https://ifttt.com/maker_webhooks) and click **Documentation**.
2. Copy the webhook key shown on the page. You need it to configure the action.

## Configure the IFTTT action

1. In **Events & Actions** in the [Admin Portal](https://admin.pubnub.com/), select your app and keyset, then click **+ Add Action**.
2. Select **Webhook IFTTT** as the action type.
3. In **Event Name**, enter the event name you set on the Webhooks trigger.
4. In **IFTTT Webhook key**, enter the key you copied, for example `c-6oz3G_IPCjb6mGqTpz1d`.
5. If your applet's webhook expects specific HTTP headers, add them.
6. If you want failed deliveries retried automatically, enable and configure **Webhook IFTTT retry**. See [Available actions](https://www.pubnub.com/docs/integrations/event-forwarding/available-actions.md) for the retry policy and backoff formula.
7. Click **Add event listener** and pair the action with an existing event listener, or [create one](https://www.pubnub.com/docs/integrations/event-forwarding/configure.md).
8. Click **Save changes**.

[Publish](https://www.pubnub.com/docs/pub-sub/publish/overview.md) a message that matches the paired listener's filter and confirm your IFTTT applet runs.
